CAPITAL COST GUIDE

What does a UV printer really cost?

The equipment quote is only the first line of the model. The commercial cost includes installation, workflow, labor, maintenance, rejects, financing, and unused capacity.

01

Build the installed-cost number

Include the printer, RIP software, jigs, ventilation, electrical work, delivery, training, initial ink, pretreatment, and a realistic reserve for replacement parts.

02

Calculate true unit cost

Use substrate, ink, varnish, pretreatment, cleaning supplies, labor, waste, packaging, and order-level overhead. Divide fixed cost by realistic output—not the machine's advertised maximum.

03

Price downtime and maintenance

White ink circulation, nozzle checks, head cleaning, environmental control, and operator training affect usable capacity. A low purchase price can create a high cost per sellable print.

04

Set a payback rule before buying

Use verified monthly units and contribution savings. A 12–24 month modeled payback can be reasonable; a payback dependent on unproven future demand is a sales forecast, not an investment case.
